This Term all classes composed a song using rhythmic notation. They were then asked to clap or perform their piece on a percussion instrument.
In Room 21 have some excellent musicians who extended themselves and play a melody on their chosen instruments. Well done.
Year One and Two
In Year One and Two we have been learning to improvise and make up a melody on the spot. Students have been using the xylophones.and playing melody for 8 beats between singing the verses of the song 'Fiddle Diddle Dee'.
The year ones and twos have also been playing with the Boom Whackers which have been lots of fun!
Year Three and Four
In year three and four we have been learning to layer parts in our song 'Caravan'. We play a bass line and a ostinato whilst singing the melody of the song. It is starting to sound amazing.
Year Five and Six
We have been learning out song 'Waterbird' and layering 3 part harmonies together. Well done Year 5 and 6!
The Year One and Year Two classes have been reading 'Freddie the Frog'.This story book has been helping us learn our music notation. Freddie lives on an island called Treble Clef Island. The students have learnt the notes: F(Freddie), C(Crocodile), A(Azaleas) and E(Ellie) on the Music staff. We have also been learning a new song called 'Fiddle Diddle Dee' on the xylophones. Their progress so far is sensational. Well done.
Year Three's and Fours
We have been working on our new song 'Caravan' in class. We have also learnt some chords to accompany the song. We are now working on playing the melody against the chords in harmony.
Year Five's and Six's
Students have been learning a song called 'Waterbird'. The bass line uses our left and right hands on the xylophone and has taken a great deal of practice to achieve this standard. Well done Year 5 and 6 students.
Junior Choir
The Junior Choir is preparing for an excursion in Week 8 to the Octagon Theatre at the University of Western Australia. Students are reminded that they are required to attendeach Friday rehearsal in preparation for this event.
We have been listening and responding to music. We listened to Vivalidi's Four Seasons and guessed the season he wrote the music about. These are some amazing drawings done in class illustrating their ideas.
The Year One and Twoclasses having been working on beats and rhythms. We walked through the beat dots to work out how to write music. Well done on your compositions they were superb.

What a fantastic Term One. Have a brilliant holiday and I will see you next term.
What a great start we've had to the year in music. Both the Junior and Senior Choirs have been busy rehearsing and already sounding fantastic. In class students have been busy learning and exploring music ideas.
Year 1's
Students are learning the differences between silence/rhythm/beat using percussion instruments. Students are learning how to create sounds using dynamics in music(quiet/loud) using percussion instruments. Here the students in Room 9 are learning to conduct Piano/Forte (quiet/loud)
Year 2's
Year twos have been learning how to play the song 'Flying Man' on the xylophone. They are beginning to play in time with one another and use their beautiful singing voices. Well done year 2's.
Year 3/4's
Students are learning how to create a 8 beat rhythm composition using music notation this term. We are focusing on learning a piece called 'I've got an action'. We are learning to keep in time with the beat, play in time with other instruments and using expression while playing.
Year 5/6's
Students are learning how to play the Djembe this term. We are playing in three parts and trying keep in time with each other. It's quiet tricky but practise makes permanent, I'm excited by their progress so far.
Wattle Grove Primary students are very capable in Music and are a pleasure to teach. It will be exciting to see their progress this year. I hope I can inspire some future musicians.
Here's an interesting quote:
“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.” ― Albert Einstein
